NEW JERSEY


Hugh McAdams, a yeoman in Salem County in 1743 was creditor and administer of the will of Newcomb Braven. A reference in the will of William Adams in 1762 states he and purchased his plantation from Hugh McAdams some years ago. The plantation was in Penns Neck, Salem Co. Hugh very well could be a descendent of Archibald or George McAdam who was deported from Scotland in 1685. The Hugh McAdam, Jr. found in Delaware Co., New York is his son or came from Windham, NH.

Barclay McAdams appears briefly in 1773 and 1774 as head of household and property owner in Springfield.

William McAdams, cb. 1732 of Essex County was an immigrant from Ayshire, Scotland. He was about 18 when he arrived in 1769. He served in the Revolutionary War and granted a pension for his service. He and his wife, Sarah Smith McAdams witnessed the will of Stephen Passel who died in 1796

William McAdams married Ann Blanchard 12, Dec. 1764. He is found in the records in Handover, Morris Co. He died in Essex Co. in 1810. He does not name his children but a daughter, Sarah Woodruff is mention.

James McAdams, b. 1784 was a resident of Essex Co. His will was proved in 1854 and he names wife, Ellen and son Benard in his will. Benard life his will in Essex Co which was proved in 1886. He names wife, Mary, children, John, James, Bridget, Annie Murry, a widow, and Margaret.

William McAdams, b. 1832 in NJ married Elizabeth b. 1835, lived in Middlessex Co., their children were: i...William F. b. 21 Oct. 1862 ii....Walter, b. 1866 iii.... Agness, b. 1868 iv....Charles, b. 1872

Patrick McAdam of Newark, NJ left a will dated 19 April 1896 and names his nephew, Philip McAdam of North Hudson, NJ, James McAdam of Philadelphia, nieces, Katie McAdam Carlin, Bridget McAdam, and Mary McAdam of Lowell, Mass.

Edward (Ned) McAdams served in the Mexican War and married Bridget Fer in Trenton NJ
in 1849. The family moved to Dubuque, Iowa about 1853. Their children were:

Michael Joseph McAdams


My grandfather, Michael Joseph McAdams, was born in Ewing Twp. Mercer County,
New Jersey Dec 25, 1869. His parents were Patrick McAdams b. Ireland abt. 1834
and Mary Jane Walker born Scotland or Ireland (records vary) abt. 1847. They can
be found on the 1870 New Jersey census. Patrick worked "at the quarry." Patrick died
between 1875 and 1880. Mary Jane remarried a Mr. Baker is listed on the 1880 census
with Micheal and his sister Hannah McAdams, residing in Hammonton, New Jersey.
Michael served as a Sergeant in the Spanish American War, was wounded
in action in the Philippines and released from service in California where he married
my grandmother. He is buried at the Yountville Veterans Cemetery, Napa, CA.
We have been unable to find any other information on Patrick or Mary Jane (Walker)
McAdams, and hope that someone may find this familiar and be able to help.
